CHAPTER 20-B-2. LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS HIGHER EDUCATION LOAN PROGRAM
17:3042.23 Amount; requirements
A. A loan may be made by the commission pursuant to this Chapter for not in excess of two thousand dollars per year or a total of eight thousand dollars for any approved applicant, provided such loan is used to defray the tuition and other expenses of any such applicant at a college or university in Louisiana.
B. A loan made under the provisions of this Chapter to any applicant shall not exceed the total herein stated, and shall be under such terms and conditions as may be provided under rules and regulations of the commission.
C. A student for whom a loan is made by the commission pursuant to the provisions of this Chapter shall be required to repay the full amount of the loan and interest thereon to the commission. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the commission shall forgive such a loan to the applicant in return for services rendered by the applicant by practicing his or her occupation as a commissioned law enforcement officer within the state. One year's funding of the loan together with the interest thereon shall be forgiven by the commission for the applicant for each year of practicing his occupation as a commissioned law enforcement officer within Louisiana subsequent to graduation and receipt of a bachelor's degree as provided in this Chapter.
