STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT

 

 

ALL STUDENTS

 

  1. All students shall maintain school attendance as described by the Acadia Parish School Board.
     

  2. All students shall be obedient and respectful.
     

  3. All students shall refrain from obscene language and/or expressions.
     

  4. All students shall refrain from violent and/or threatening behavior.
     

  5. All students shall be held accountable for their academic performances and behavior.
     

  6. All students shall respect school property and the property of others.
     

  7. All students shall abide by the rules and regulations of the classroom teacher, the school, and the Acadia Parish School Board.

 

NOTE:      STUDENTS SHALL ABIDE BY THE ABOVE STANDARDS AT ALL SCHOOL ACTIVITIES.

 

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

 

RULE INFRACTIONS AND CONSEQUENCES:

 

NOTE:      The severity of the incident is to be considered by the school administration when determining minor and major infractions.  An elementary school may have the option of operating a Saturday detention at the school's expense and with the Superintendent's approval.

 

MINOR INFRACTIONS

 

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES WILL BE FOLLOWED UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED:

THE FOLLOWING INFRACTIONS WILL FOLLOW CONSEQUENCES A-H UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED:

Disturbs the school and habitually violates any rule

Possesses weapon(s) prohibited under federal law as defined in section 921 of title 18 of the U.S. Code (***Immediate Referral)

Possesses firearms, knives, mace, pepper spray, laser pointers, and other implements not prohibited by federal law, which can be used as weapons, the careless use of which might inflict harm or injury (***Immediate Referral)

Throws missiles, objects liable to injure others (***Immediate Referral)

Instigates or participates in fights while under school supervision (***Immediate Referral)

Violates traffic and safety regulations

Leaves school premises or classroom without permission (***Immediate Referral)

Is habitually tardy and/or absent

Is guilty of stealing (***Immediate Referral)

Possesses electronic telecommunication devices (***Immediate Referral)

Subject to disciplinary action up to suspension.

Students K through 8 shall address teachers and administrators using respectful terms such as "yes, ma'am" and "no, ma'am" and using courtesy titles Mr., Mrs, or Miss. The first six weeks shall be an adjustment period for kindergarten students.  (Discipline for violators will be handled in each school by teachers and principals, with the principal having final discretion as to enforcement.  Violators cannot be suspended or expelled for violation of the respect rule.)

 

NOTE:  The principal will have the option of using corporal punishment in each school.  Corporal punishment will not be used in a school without the approval of the principal.

DISCIPLINARY GUIDELINES FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

 

NOTE:            The severity of the incident is to be considered by the school administration when determining minor and major infractions. A suspension could be issued without going through the following procedures.   A middle school may have the option of operating a Saturday detention at the school's expense and with the Superintendent's approval.

 

CONSEQUENCES FOR MINOR INFRACTIONS:

 

1st step:  Verbal warning

 

2nd step:  Teacher/student conference

 

3rd step:  Parent contact (one or more of the following)

 

  1. Phone call/document date/time

  2. Conference - before school, teacher prep time, after school

  3. Parent notification form - signed by parent, returned to teacher and administrator (Administrator can step in if notification form was not returned after a reasonable length of time.)

 

4th step:  Counseling and/or counselor referral sent by teacher

This penalty applies to all school activities, even those not held on that particular school's campus.

IS HABITUALLY TARDY

 

NOTE:            Tardies are accumulated throughout the school year, beginning with the 1st referral

 

Each middle school shall develop its own school policy for handling tardies.

IS GUILTY OF STEALING

 

Theft under $100:

3-5 day out-of-school suspension, and financial restitution

Theft over $100:

Indefinite suspension with recommendation for expulsion and financial restitution

2nd offense:

Recommendation for expulsion

COMMITS ANY OTHER SERIOUS OFFENSE

 

(Including but not limited to setting off fire alarms, possessing or using fireworks or stink bombs on school, campus or at any school activity, extortion, obstructing an investigation by withholding information or providing false information)

NOTE:            The severity of the incident is to be considered by the school administration; thus, a suspension could be issued without going through the following procedures.  A secondary school may have the option of operating a Saturday detention at the school's expense and with the Superintendent's approval.

 

All referrals leading to detention (before or after school) in-school suspension, or out-of-school suspension include parent contact by teachers, bus operators, and/or administrators.
