READMISSION TO SCHOOL
The Acadia Parish School Board shall observe the following requirements when considering the readmission of a student who, after the opening date of school has been expelled from or requested to withdraw from any public, private, or parochial school because of disciplinary problems encountered by such student:
Any student who, after the opening date of school, has been expelled from or requested to withdraw from any public, private, or parochial school may be denied admission by the Superintendent when disciplinary problems for such student were of such a nature and kind that, if the student seeking transfer had committed such act or acts while enrolled in a public school, such student would, in the judgment of the Superintendent, have been expelled from the public schools of Acadia Parish.
The principal of the school in which such student shall attempt to enroll shall recommend to the Superintendent that the student be permitted to enroll or that admission to the school be denied.
The Superintendent shall review the circumstances which resulted in the student's being expelled from or requested to withdraw from a public, private, or parochial school, but shall not deny admission to any such student before according the student appropriate due process. Specifically, the student shall be given notice, a hearing, and an opportunity to be heard, which shall include the opportunity to present witnesses.
Any student denied admission shall have the right within five (5) days to appeal to the Acadia Parish School Board.
