INTERSCHOLASTIC ATHLETICS - REGULATIONS

 

 

ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS

 

Supervision

 

Principals of elementary and middle schools or designated members of their faculties are required to attend athletic games in which their schools participate to properly supervise such events.

 

Football

 

The Acadia Parish School Board shall require the beginning date for practice of this sport shall be no earlier than the beginning date for the opening of school each year.  Daily practice shall not exceed 1 hour and 45 minutes and shall take place in the afternoon at the close of the regular school day and shall end no later than 6:00 p.m.   Practice after 6:00 p.m. shall be limited to no more than two (2) sessions per season.

 

Middle school football games shall be scheduled so that all games shall have been played by the end of the second week of November and shall be limited to no more than six (6) games per season.  If games are played on afternoons of the school week, visiting teams will be permitted to travel after 6:00 p.m., if necessary.  All night football games shall terminate no later than 8:00 p.m.  Exceptions to the 8:00 p.m. termination of games are allowable only when necessary to allow a high school team to complete a practice session when the same field will be used.  Scrimmage or practice sessions between middle school football teams are prohibited.  No games shall be played during the regular school day.

 

Basketball

 

The Acadia Parish School Board shall limit the number of games that may be played by a school to two (2) games per week.  Termination time for all basketball games played on the afternoon of a school day and for all practice shall be 6:00 p.m.  Games will be permitted on one school night per week.  This does not include Friday or Saturday nights.  However, games on a school night must terminate no later than 8:00 pm.  No elementary or middle school player shall be permitted to compete in more than two (2) games, or one game and one tournament, per week.  Participation in tournaments shall be limited to six (6) per season.  No games shall be played during a regular school day. All regular season games shall be completed by the first of March.

 

Track

 

Elementary and middle school track teams shall be permitted to participate in only one track meet per week.  All practice sessions shall terminate by 6:00 p.m.  The season may not extend beyond the second week in May.

 

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS

 

Football

 

Games:         

 

All football games shall be played at the close of the school day on Friday, on Friday night, or on Saturday.  However, a game may be played Thursday night if this is necessary to complete scheduled games.

 

Practice:        

 

Afternoon football practice shall not exceed 2 hours and 15 minutes, and shall not begin until the close of the regular school day and must end by 7:00 p.m.  Night practices shall be limited to three (3) per season after schools open.

 

Basketball

 

Games:

 

All schools shall be limited to playing two (2) regular games per week.  Schools will be allowed to schedule one boys’ and one girls’ basketball game during the school day (with authorization of the Superintendent).

 

Practice:

 

Afternoon basketball practice shall not exceed 2 hours and 15 minutes and shall not begin until the close of the regular school day and must end by 7:00 p.m.

 

Tournaments:

 

Tournaments conducted within the Acadia Parish School System shall be held on weekends and holidays and may begin at the end of the school day on Thursday; however, it is the expressed desire of the Acadia Parish School Board that schools play Thursday tournament games only if unavoidable.  Any deviation must be approved by the Superintendent.

 

Track

 

Tournaments and Meets:

 

All high schools shall limit participation of individual students in track meets to two (2) meets per week.  Meets shall be limited to one school night per week.  Tournaments and track meets held during the school day must be authorized by the Superintendent.

 

Practice:

 

Track practice may not exceed 2 hours and 15 minutes and may not begin until the end of the regular school day and shall terminate at 7:00 p.m.

 

Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball

 

Games:

 

No school shall schedule more than two (2) games during a school week (Monday through Friday) or schedule more than one game and one tournament during a week.  Rained-out games that have to be made up on a school day shall not be counted as a regularly scheduled game during a week.  (Monday through Friday holidays shall be counted as a weekend.)
