BOARD MEMBER COMPENSATION AND EXPENSES

The Acadia Parish School Board shall provide an expense allowance and provide for expense reimbursement for its members in accordance with state law.  Each member of the School Board shall be paid a monthly allowance of $500.00.  School Board members shall not receive reimbursement for mileage going to and from meetings but may be reimbursed for actual travel and related expenses outside the jurisdictional boundaries of the School Board while on official School Board business, all in accordance with School Board policy.

Any action increasing the compensation for School Board members shall require a two-thirds (⅔) vote of the total membership.  Before any action is taken, however, the School Board shall advertise the time and place where the meeting is to be held to consider the compensation in the official journal of the School Board on at least two (2) separate days during the fifteen (15) days immediately preceding such meeting.

The President shall be provided an additional $100.00 monthly expense allowance.

MEMBERS' ABSENCE AT MEETINGS

A School Board member shall be allowed to miss three (3) regularly scheduled monthly School Board meetings during a term of office with no penalty.  Any member exceeding three (3) absences shall, therefore, forfeit $100.00 per absence.  Exception for reasonable excuses shall be death in the immediate family or being away on official School Board business.  Immediate family includes spouse, parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling, father/mother-in-law, son/daughter-in-law, or a person domiciled with and being cared for by the School Board member.

In the event that a current member is replaced for the remainder of an unexpired term by an appointed or newly-elected member, this policy shall be applied to the new member for the remainder of the unexpired term of office on a pro-rata basis.

TRAVEL EXPENSES

Reimbursement of travel expenses of School Board members shall be in accordance with travel regulations established by the School Board for staff personnel.  School Board members’ travel shall be limited to $750.00 per member per year.
