Recognition: 1.7 Recognize a winner of the Terrel H Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership
Each year the U.S. Department of Education bestows the Terrel H. Bell Award for Outstanding School Leadership on a very small number of outstanding school principals who have led their schools to achieve the National Blue Ribbon School distinction. Ms. Irma Trosclair, Principal of South Crowley Elementary, has earned the coveted former U.S. Secretary of Education Terrel H. Bell Award for her outstanding leadership which caused her school to be recognized for the National Blue Ribbon Award.
Ms. Trosclair was one of seven principals selected from among the 335 principals serving the National Blue Ribbon Schools who has been designated as a Terrel H. Bell recipient. In numeric terms, there are approximately 98,800 schools in the United States. Of these 98,800 schools, only 335 earned National Blue Ribbon Award status, and among these 335 schools only seven principals earned the Terrel H. Bell Award. Ms. Trosclair of South Crowley Elementary was one of these special principals. So in essence, Ms. Trosclair earned the Terrel H. Bell Award from among 98,800 principals nation-wide.
Also, from among the hundreds of schools across Louisiana, there were only nine schools who earned National Blue Ribbon honors. Of the nine Blue Ribbon Schools in Louisiana, three were private, two were magnet schools, one was a lab school, and three were regular public schools. Two of the three regular public schools in Louisiana were from Acadia Parish. The two schools from Acadia Parish were South Crowley where Ms. Trosclair is principal and Martin Petitjean where Dr. Kim Cummins is principal.
About these awards, Ms. Trosclair is quick to say, "The Blue Ribbon School Award and the Terrel H. Bell Award were earned as a result of the hard work and dedication of the students, teachers, parents, and community of South Crowley Elementary School."
